The Xfinity 40 Week Series Coca Cola Firecracker 250 night race at Daytona Int’l Speedway started with Darron Manning on the pole and Jeff Ford setting the fastest lap of the race. Jeff Ford gained 14 spots for the most positions gained bonus. The race produced many close battles for position through the field with many position changes. Niels Clyde led the most laps with 16, with Ed Carpenter Jr going on to take the win. This week the drivers showed good race-craft, which resulted in 1 caution with 25 lead changes and there were 3 disqualifications and 1 disconnect in a 21 car field The race ended with Ed Carpenter Jr #29 Publix Supermarkets Mustang capturing his 1st win of the season, with Brian Glass taking 2nd, Jeff Ford in 3rd and Bill Benedict nabbing 4th.
This week the Xfinity Series moves to the Alsco 300 night race at Kentucky Speedway with the current points leader Mike Schrader looking to maintain the lead in the series. The question is … can he hold off the charging Old Bastards?
We shall see when the green flag drops at 11:40 am Eastern time.
In the Xfinity 40 Week Series points championship Kent “Big Time” Connolly in 2nd, Joel Kilburn 3rd Brian Glass in 4th and Dwayne McArthur in 5th.
The Kentucky race will be intense, and expect to see close battles all over the track.
